Dr. Richard Sayegh wanted to create a team approach to health care, fitness, and sports medicine, a goal that was achieved with the opening of SMART Spine Institute & Surgery Center. What is Manipulation Under Anesthesia?
This procedure is done on painful and stiff joints such as shoulders and knees. This is done in our Medicare-Approved Surgery Center, under the guidance of board certified physicians to provide anesthesia. The sedation reduces reflex muscle guarding of a painful joint, pain or spasm during the procedure. The stretching, traction and / or manipulation is performed by chiropractors who are specifically certified in this treatment. Most patients are able to achieve drastically improved range of motion. Many people have had success with this treatment for frozen shoulder, post-surgical knee stiffness and it is a great way to break up scar tissue and increase range of motion within the joint.
MUA to the spine is considered investigational by most insurance companies while MUA to extremities are usually covered depending on your insurance and diagnosis and treatment plan. It is a great option for some who are experiencing joint pain and stiffness.
Is Stem Cell or Regenerative Medicine covered by insurance?
At this time Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP procedures are covered by some insurances and Medicare. However, stem cell is still considered experimental and therefore is not covered by your insurance. Many patients opt to have regenerative medicine procedures before having an invasive joint surgery.
